"Release Time" Letter to School

If you have a youth event that is overlapping with a school day, you can use something like this to encourage parents to let their students participate. They can also send it to their student's school.

Date: ______________

Dear Parents,

I am writing you today to urge you to consider sending your teen to the upcoming Youth Convention taking place October 11 (5pm) – 13 (3:30pm). This is a one of a kind event in the state of Oregon that we are excited to offer you.

I strongly believe that this event will benefit your teen and their youth group as a whole. This conference will provide them with time to be challenged and inspired by great speakers and musicians. During this conference, students will have the opportunity to sit under some of the best spiritual equipping available anywhere, as we welcome the ministry of Reggie Dabbs and Brian Eno who will both bring a message of hope and encouragement to your teens.

I recognize that participation in this event requires your student to miss a day of school. Again, we strongly believe that this event will be well worth the sacrifice in students’ preparation for life and service. Be assured that this will not be a “day off”, but will be a great time of growth and encouragement. Be advised, as well, that the state of Oregon law had made provision for your teen’s off campus religious instruction, without penalty, called “Release Time.” Please consult with your school officials for details.

Again, we encourage you to make this great event a reality for your teenager. I welcome you to call my office if you have any questions. May God bless you and your family richly!

In Christ,

Youth Pastor
